9 SEO myths debunked
9 SEO myths debunked
1. "You create content for search engines"
Many people think that as long as you adhere to the rules of Google and other search engines, you are in with your website. That is, of course, a wrong attitude. In the first place, you still want to convince your target group, so the most important thing is that your content is directed towards them. So write in the first instance for your target group and then process your keywords in that content.
2. "The more links, the better for SEO"
Wrong again ... It used to be that many external links were better for your SEO. The quantity was more important than quality, but that is a thing of the past. Link building still works, but search engines look more at its quality. Link building is all about making relevant and various links. If you do put a lot of time into it, don't do this by creating a lot of useless links.
3. "My keyword must appear as much as possible"
In a sense, we can say that this is true, but search engines are getting smarter, which means that you too have to tackle this smarter. Keywords are the terms that people google to find information. Through various tools, you can find out how often specific terms are searched for, which can, therefore, be interesting to process in the content of your website. Yet it is important that you do not exaggerate. 'Keyword stuffing' is just the opposite. The algorithm of Google and other search engines understands better and better what your texts are about, so you don't have to repeat that one word. Search engines nowadays need a context that supports the keywords. So definitely use synonyms or related words.
4. "User experience is not important for SEO"
If search engines lead users to a website with bad user experience, they also lose users. So think again ... If the information on your website is useful, relevant and accessible to your target group, they will also spend longer on your website. This is a signal for Google that your website is user-friendly.
5. 'The number of followers on social media is a ranking factor'
No matter how many followers or likes you have on social media, it is not a direct ranking factor for SEO. What social media certainly help with is luring more traffic to your website. And the more (relevant) visitors, the more search engines experience your site as useful. Websites that receive a lot of landings and where visitors stay long enough are scored better in the search results.
6. "The more pages in your website, the better for SEO"
We can understand that this is how people think because in a certain sense it is also true, but this is in the line of misconceptions about SEO. As a result, an overload of pages is often crammed into a website, so that the focus on quality is lost. This way, search engines also lose their way to the important pages on your site. So make sure you don't need more pages than you need because you don't want both search engines and users to experience your website as a maze.
7. "Photos cannot be optimized for search engines"
Although search engines are becoming smarter and they already have image recognition software, they are not yet smart enough to fully understand images. If search engines want to understand what is on an image, it is important that you give the photo a clear file name and add an alt tag. An alt tag provides a brief description of what is on your image. The perfect opportunity to process your keyword again.
8. "Google Ads affect SEO"
It has not yet been clearly demonstrated that there is a direct relationship between SEO and the use of Google Ads. It is not that Google scores your 'free' search results (organic results) better when they see that you also advertise in Google and therefore invest. Yet there is an indirect connection. If you attract more visitors to your website through advertisements, that is good for your branding and authority. Thanks to the extra visitors via Google Ads, your reach is therefore increased. If your products or services are better known as a result, there is a chance that your company name will be searched directly and you will receive many direct visits. This is an important indicator for SEO for Google.
9. "SEO is a one-off effort"
If only it were true ... It is perfectly possible that you will achieve good results with your first SEO efforts, but you will only get a strong piece of SEO with a consistent strategy that is actively adjusted and followed up. Here are three reasons why this is so: The competition also aims for the best position. So you can't sit still unless you don't want to be better than the competition.
Google 's algorithm is constantly changing. So you have to follow the ranking factors of search engines. Search engines like an active website and therefore new content. So regularly create new content on which search engines are keen.
